During a special operation in the sea area north of Mannar, the Sri Lanka Navy captured 02 Indian fishing vessels and arrested 17 Indian fishermen who were poaching in Sri Lankan waters.

A cluster of Indian fishing boats were observed by the North Central Naval Command yesterday morning (29), illegally fishing in Sri Lankan waters.

To stop those Indian fishing boats from poaching in the sea area north of Mannar, the Northern Naval Command sent out its Fast Attack Craft and the North Central Naval Command sent out its Inshore Patrol Craft.

Due to their poaching in Sri Lankan waters, 17 Indian fishermen have been arrested.

According to the navy, the operation resulted in the seizure of two Indian boats and the arrest of seventeen Indian fishermen who continued in remaining in Sri Lankan waters.It stated that the seized boats and the Indian fishermen were hauled to the Talaimannar Pier and would be given to the Mannar Fisheries Inspector for further legal action.

The Navy has so far in 2024 detained 55 Indian fishing vessels and 413 Indian fishermen in island waters, including the apprehension of this operation, and turned them over to authorities for legal action.
