Hassan Nasrallah, the head of Hezbollah, has been killed, according to the Israel Defence Forces (IDF).
“Hassan Nasrallah will no longer be able to terrorise the world,” reads a statement posted on the IDF’s X account.
The declaration comes after several strikes that took place in Beirut throughout the night, which Israel claimed were directed against Nasrallah and other Hezbollah leaders.
In addition to Hassan Nasrallah, the statement claims that other prominent figures from the Iran-backed organisation were also slain, including the head of Hezbollah’s southern front.
“Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah killed in an overnight attack on Beirut, according to the Israeli military.”
Fighter jets, according to the IDF, carried out “targeted strike” on Hezbollah’s central offices, which it claims was “underground embedded under a residential building in the area of Dahieh in Beirut.”
It further states that the attack was carried out while the armed group’s “senior chain of command” was in operation out of the southern Beirut district of Dahieh.
