As of yesterday night, the new Sri Lankan government has officially reinstated the previous method for issuing visas, as confirmed by the Presidential Media Division (PMD).

As a result, starting at midnight yesterday (26), all foreign nationals will be able to apply for visas using the earlier procedure, according to the PMD.

In the meantime, Vijitha Herath, Sri Lanka’s new foreign minister has issued a special statement on this matter.

“Many people faced difficulties when the visa facility was managed by VFS Global,” he said in his statement. Foreigners had a number of problems in Sri Lanka, which prompted the swift action. The government applied   the court ruling to return to the previous system within 24 hours.

“The administration acted quickly to comply with the court’s ruling after conferring with the Attorney General. Furthermore, an examination is also in progress to look into the purported anomalies in hiring the VFS organization to grant visas,” he continued.

According to the PMD, this decision addresses the issues that were previously hampering the visa application process.

It claimed that as a result, starting at midnight yesterday, all foreigners will be qualified to apply for visas using the reopened system.
