The Elections Commission said yesterday (20) that 116 international election observers will monitor on today’s (21) presidential election.There are nine observers from the Asian Election Observation Network, 22 from the Commonwealth, and 78 from the European Union (EU).

Seven representatives from the South Asian region are also observing this election, having received an invitation from the Election Commission.

116 international observers will be monitoring today’s presidential election in Sri Lanka.

The Elections Commission stated that all necessary  has been taken to ensure the safety and security of these international observers, who have been stationed in 25 districts.

In the meantime, 4,000 election monitors will be  deployed today, said Rohana Hettiarachchi, Executive Director of the People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL).
