Fielding coach Anton Roux of the Sri Lankan men’s cricket team has announced his resignation.
In March 2022, Roux, a former first-class cricket player from South Africa and former Netherlands coach, assumed the position with Sri Lanka.
“I made the decision to leave my position as Sri Lanka Cricket’s national fielding coach on August 14, 2024. I’m wrapping up my handover this week, so it will be my last with SLC. Being a member of the Sri Lankan national cricket team has been an incredible privilege and a really humble experience. I will always treasure the recollections and encounters I had on my adventure.

“Seeing the Sri Lankan people’s tenacity and solidarity in times of adversity, particularly during the thrilling series victory against Australia at home, was a testament to what this country, and team, can achieve when it comes together.” In a post on LinkedIn, Roux said, “The electrifying atmosphere, the fervour of the fans, and the victories on the pitch will remain etched in my memory.”
Roux’s last international match as the national fielding coach was, thus, the third and final Test at the Oval, where Sri Lanka defeated England by eight wickets to record their first victory over the hosts in the longer format in ten years.
He went on to discuss how, during his time as a fielding coach, he saw firsthand what Sri Lanka accomplished. “Winning the 2022 Asia T20 Cup and making it to the finals of two Asia Cups was an incredible accomplishment that showed this team’s real potential. I shall always treasure the pleasure I had bringing the trophy back to Sri Lanka and witnessing the supporters’ delight.
“I also got the opportunity to spend a little amount of time with the Sri Lanka Women’s Cricket Team, and I was really impressed by their competitive spirit, desire to learn, and physical prowess.
They have become an inspiration and a ray of hope for women in Sri Lanka as they have continued to expand. They have made incredible progress, and I am confident that they will continue to do great things in the future.
Roux also sent his appreciation to all who helped to make his time in Sri Lanka so memorable. Sri Lanka has also entered the narrative of my family. My second son, Aiden, was born there, and the affection and care we experienced at Joseph Fraser Hospital in Colombo will always bring back happy memories and a strong bond with this stunning nation.
