According to the Department of Meteorology, showers or thundershowers are predicted to occasionally occur in the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara-Eliya as well as in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces. It also stated that heavy downpours exceeding 100 mm are predicted in certain areas of the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the districts of Galle and Matara, today (02).
In certain locations in the Eastern and Uva provinces, there is a chance of evening or nighttime showers or thundershowers.Strong winds of between 40 and 50 kmph are occasionally predicted over the western slopes of the central hills, in the northern, north-central, and north-western provinces, as well as in the districts of Hambantota and Trincomalee, according to the Met Department.
“Over 100 mm of precipitation is predicted in some areas of the island.”
Therefore, during thundershowers, the general public is kindly asked to take appropriate precautions to minimise damages caused by transient, localised strong winds and lightning.Due to its apparent southward relative motion, the sun will be directly overhead Sri Lanka’s latitudes from August 28 to September 6.
The Met Department reports that Marawila, Narammala, Mawathagama, and Kalmunai are the closest locations in Sri Lanka where the sun will be overhead today (02) at 12:09 PM.
