The reserved packet containing the ballots for registered postal voters in the 2024 presidential election will be delivered to the postal department today, 26.

In the meantime, official voter registration for the upcoming presidential election will begin on September 3. Sunday, September 8, has been set aside as a special day for voter registration.

Meanwhile, yesterday, on May 25, Deputy Postmaster General Rajitha Ranasinghe declared that all Department of Posts employees’ leaves had been cancelled, effective immediately, until the end of the 2024 presidential election.

According to him, the choice was taken to guarantee that all election-related duties are properly handled.

He did, however, add that any postal employee needing time off for urgent matters would need to get approval from the Deputy Postmaster General overseeing their province.

While postal voting for the presidential election will take place on September 4, 5, and 6, the presidential election is scheduled to take place on September 21. District Secretariats, Election Offices, and Police are allowed to mark postal votes on September 4.

For those who were unable to mark their ballot by mail, September 11 and 12 have been set aside as additional dates. According to Commissioner General of Elections Saman Sri Ratnayake, 736,589 applications have been received for postal voting in the 2024 presidential election; 24,268 of those applications have been rejected, leaving a total of 712,321 applicants eligible to cast a ballot.
