Under his leadership, Namal Rajapaksa, the presidential candidate of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), claims that land and police powers will not be transferred to provincial councils.
Speaking at his first-ever rally in Anuradhapura, Rajapaksa said he thought their government had been overthrown by a plot, but they had prevented the state from falling apart.
“By deceiving the Tamil people in the North, we gain nothing. Namal”
“In order to protect the state, we turned over the government to President Ranil Wickremesinghe,” Rajapaksa declared.”The SLPP offered its support even though there were certain policies that we could not support. We play politics based on values. We defend our values as a political camp. So let’s proceed with a plan, he continued.
The SLPP presidential candidate continued, saying, “We are dedicated to upholding all religions in this Buddhist nation. We will not give provincial councils control over land or law enforcement. We do not benefit from deceiving the Tamil people in the North.
He said, “We have to be clear about what we can and cannot do.”
