According to Commissioner General of Elections Saman Sri Ratnayake, a Gazette notification detailing the maximum amount a Presidential Candidate may spend on each voter during their election campaign will be released yesterday night.

He said that as a result, the maximum amount that each candidate may spend will be published in the gazette as Rs. 109.00 per voter.

New campaign finance laws that restrict the amount of money that candidates, political parties, and independent groups can spend on their campaigns will apply to all future national elections.
The Election Commission met with a number of stakeholders prior to the impending presidential election in order to brief them on the legislation, get their opinions, and get suggestions for how to set the spending cap and proceed with putting the laws into effect.
