Ben Stokes, the captain of England cricket, was forced to withdraw from the forthcoming test series against Sri Lanka on Tuesday due to a hamstring tear he suffered during a local match the previous weekend.
“Due to a strained hamstring, Stokes was unable to participate in England’s test series against Sri Lanka.”
The 33-year-old Stokes was later observed using crutches after suffering the injury on Sunday while batting for the Northern Superchargers in The Hundred competition.Stokes will not play in any of the three tests when England takes on Sri Lanka starting on August 21.
England released a statement saying, “The all-rounder is aiming to return for England’s winter test tour of Pakistan.”The first test is scheduled for October 7 in Multan, Pakistan.In Stokes’ absence, Ollie Pope, the vice captain of England, will captain the group against Sri Lanka.England declared it would not be increasing its team for the series.
