The “United Lanka Podujana Party” (Eksath Lanka Podujana Pakshaya) secretary is among the officials who were detained while trying to extort a bribe from the party’s presidential candidate, former PUCSL chairman Janaka Ratnayake.According to reports, they were detained yesterday by Bribery Commission officers while taking a Rs. 30 million bribe from the party’s presidential candidate, Ratnayake.

The former PUCSL chairman, who was the party’s presidential candidate when the security deposit was made yesterday morning, filed a complaint that led to the suspects’ detention. The individuals detained, among them the secretary of the “United Lanka Podujana Party,” are charged with trying to extort Ratnayake to become the party’s presidential candidate in return for a bribe of Rs. 30 million.
Janaka Ratnayake, a former chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL), is a candidate for the “United Lanka Podujana Party” (Eksath Lanka Podujana Pakshaya) in this year’s presidential election.
Yesterday morning (14), Nihal Premakumara Deshapriya, the Secretary of the United Lanka Podujana Party, delivered the security deposit to the Election Commission on Janaka Ratnayake’s behalf.
