Starlink Lanka (Private) Limited has been officially granted a Telecommunications Service Provider License by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRCSL), according to a statement released by the President’s Media Division (PMD) yesterday (13).
According to the PMD, the TRCSL license went into effect on August 12, 2024, and allows Starlink Lanka to provide satellite broadband services throughout the nation.
According to the statement, the licence was granted in accordance with Section 17B of the Sri Lanka Telecommunications Act No. 25 of 1991.
“Elon Musk’s Starlink receives a licence from TRC to provide nationwide satellite broadband services.”
According to the PMD, the development comes after businessman Elon Musk and President Ranil Wickremesinghe met recently in Indonesia at the 10th World Water Forum.
According to the report, Wickremesinghe and Musk talked about accelerating the application process to link Sri Lanka to Musk’s Starlink network, with the goal of improving the country’s access to high-speed internet through cutting-edge satellite technology.
Starlink is a satellite internet network that covers 102 countries and is a fully owned subsidiary of SpaceX, an American aerospace company.
