On August 16, according to Indian media, the much-delayed passenger ferry service between Nagapattinam, in Tamil Nadu, and Kankesanthurai (KKS), a suburb of the Jaffna district, in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka, is scheduled to begin.The ferry operator, IndSri Ferry Services Private Limited, stated that reservations for its services would be available starting at midnight yesterday, according to DT Next.

It was eventually cancelled despite initial plans to relaunch it in May due to delays.
After a nearly 40-year break, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi essentially kicked off the service on October 14 of last year with the vessel “Cheriyapani.” Under KPVS Private Limited, it was run by the Shipping Corporation of India. After roughly a week, it was suspended due to inclement weather during the Northeast monsoon.
