Dhammika Perera, a member of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), has notified the party that he will not run for president in 2024 as the SLPP candidate for personal reasons, according to sources. The party leadership has therefore chosen to designate a different candidate.

Meanwhile, SLPP sources indicate that Namal Rajapaksa, the party’s national organiser, is expected to be announced as the nominee for president. But this morning (07), the SLPP is scheduled to formally declare its presidential candidate.If Namal Rakapaksa runs for president in this election, he will be the youngest contender.
