The Department of Meteorology has issued a red alert regarding heavy rains for the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and North-Western provinces, as well as the Galle and Matara districts.

According to the announcement, the prevailing rainy condition is expected to continue due to the influence of a low-pressure area located near the island. It states that very heavy rains exceeding 150 mm may occur at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and North-Western provinces and the Galle and Matara districts, while heavy rains of about 100 mm may occur at some places in other areas of the island.

The Department of Meteorology further advises the public to take necessary precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
