Restoration of Elahera Anicut Begins

In line with the national program “Vari Mahima – Ape Urumaya” (Glory of Irrigation – Our Heritage), the reconstruction of the Elahera Anicut commenced yesterday (10th).

The event was held with the participation of the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation, K.D. Lalkantha, the Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, Hiniduma Sunil Senevi, the Deputy Minister of Housing and Water Supply, T.B. Sarath, and other political and government officials.

The estimated cost for the initial phase of restoring the world-heritage-listed Elahera Anicut, which was destroyed by the Dithwa disaster, is Rs. 309,144,000.00.
