Special Announcement from the National ID Department

The Commissioner General of the Department for Registration of Persons, M.S.P. Sooripperuma, has issued a notice stating that work is currently underway to restore the department’s computer system.

According to the announcement, arrangements have been made to issue National Identity Cards (NICs) through the one-day service at the head office and provincial offices for essential applicants only, starting tomorrow (08).

However, all other services—including the verification of NIC data for government and non-governmental organizations and English language translations—remain suspended. The department has requested the relevant institutions to adopt alternative methods for these requirements during this period.

Furthermore, general services at the head office and provincial offices will remain suspended until further notice. The announcement added that all services are expected to resume continuously once the system is fully restored.
