Prabath Chandrakeerthi Appointed Chief of Staff to the President

Prabath Chandrakeerthi has been appointed as the Chief of Staff to the President.

The letter of appointment was handed over this morning (16) at the Presidential Secretariat by Secretary to the President, Dr Nandika Sanath Kumanayake.

A Special Grade officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, Chandrakeerthi counts 26 years of experience in the public service. He joined the Sri Lanka Administrative Service on 15 February 2000, was promoted to Grade I in 2010 and to Special Grade in 2019.

He began his career in 2001 as Assistant Secretary to the Ministry of Education and Tourism of the Uva Provincial Council. In 2003, he was appointed Assistant Divisional Secretary, Biyagama. He later served as Assistant Secretary to the Office of the Leader of the House of Parliament in 2006 and was promoted to Senior Assistant Secretary in 2010, serving in that capacity until 2015.

Chandrakeerthi served as Director General of the Coast Conservation Department from April 2015 to October 2020. He was appointed Commissioner General of Labour in October 2020 and held the post until December 2023. In January 2024, he assumed duties as Secretary to the Ministry of Environment, Wildlife, Forest Resources, Water Supply, Plantations and Community Infrastructure. From November 2024, he has been serving as Secretary to the Ministry of Plantations and Community Infrastructure. He is currently also serving as Commissioner General of Essential Services.
