After being brought to the Kankesanthurai harbour, the Indian trawler and its crew were turned over to the Kankesanthurai police to face legal action.

Ten Indian fishermen are being prosecuted, according to a ‘B’ report that the Kankesanthurai Police filed with the Mallakam Court in Jaffna. They are accused of killing a sailor, damaging naval property, and engaging in illicit fishing.

On June 26, the navy gave the family of the departed senior sailor custody of his body. His funeral was held in Ibbagamuwa yesterday, February 27, with full military honours.

The deceased person received a posthumous promotion to the position of Fleet Chief Petty Officer. The Navy has also made the required preparations to ensure that his family gets paid, among other things.

At the Kankesanthurai port, the Mallakam Court Magistrate carried out an on-site inspection. The Navy’s Fast Attack Craft, which sustained damage during the operation, and the Indian fishing vessel that was taken into custody were the main subjects of the inspection. The Mallakam Court in Jaffna has set July 22 for the initial hearing regarding this incident.
