The Colombo High Court sentenced former parliamentarian Hirunika Premachandra to three years of hard labour today, 28.

Hirunika Premachandra received a three-year prison sentence

On December 21, 2015, Premachandra was found guilty of participating in the kidnapping and unjustified detention of a young person in the Dematagoda area. She was subsequently sentenced.

She was found guilty of eighteen charges, and the court ruled that each charge would carry a fine of Rs. 20,000 and, in the event that the fines are not paid, an extra six months of imprisonment.

Premachandra’s attorney, President’s Counsel Anura Maddegoda, told the judge that the defendant would appeal this ruling.
