“Suspect who drove the boat that Ishara Sewwandi escaped arrested”
The person who drove the boat used by Ishara Sewwandi, the main suspect in the shooting and murder of Ganemulla Sanjeewa, to escape to India has been arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD).
It is reported that the boat was taken into police custody from the Aralithuduwa coast in Jaffna.
The boat, which is said to have facilitated Ishara Sewwandi’s escape to India, has been identified as belonging to an individual named A. Anandan and is equipped with a 400 horsepower engine.
A team of officers, led by Chief Inspector Kapila Kariyawasam, the Officer-in-Charge of the Organized Crime Investigation Unit of the Colombo Crimes Division, was able to locate the relevant suspect and the boat during a lengthy interrogation of A. Anandan.
The police stated that the arrested suspect who drove the boat is a relative of Anandan.
During police questioning, the arrested suspect revealed that he reached India after a journey of over 10 hours in the said boat from Jaffna.
The police further stated that one of the other two males who traveled on the boat is currently in remand custody, and investigations are ongoing to arrest the remaining individual.
