“New female drivers and conductors for SLTB”
Bimal Rathnayake, Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, stated that the government has decided to recruit 450 drivers, including female drivers, and 300 conductors for the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB).
Under the new reforms for the SLTB, a new uniform will be introduced for the newly recruited female drivers and conductors, on par with an air hostess’s uniform. Minister Rathnayake further stated that the lack of good salaries and attractive uniforms has been a reason for the younger generation not to join the SLTB service. He added that under the new reforms, the SLTB will be made an attractive place to encourage new people to join.
