In order to make official duties easier and more efficient for public officials, a digital signature has been introduced. The Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government, Dr. Chandana Abeyrathna, stated yesterday (15) while participating in the event to introduce the digital signature to public officials of the Home Affairs Section of the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government, that the current government’s objective is to digitalize and redirect the public service toward a new path.

The Minister also said that his goal is to create an efficient public service that the people expect and that this new technology should be taken all the way to the Grama Niladhari (village officer).

A digital signature for public officials

The process of digitizing the signatures of officials in the district secretariats and divisional secretariats of the Home Affairs section began here in accordance with the provisions of the Electronic Transactions Act No. 19 of 2006 to make official duties easier and more efficient. LankaPay holds the authority to certify digital signatures in accordance with the provisions of the Electronic Transactions Act.

It is also mentioned that this program can prevent delays that occur when dealing with letters and can provide a more efficient and productive service.

The event was attended by the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, S. Aloka Bandara, additional secretaries of the Home Affairs section Dr. Roshini Dissanayake, A.G. Nishantha, Chithra Thilakaratne, Dhammika Muthugala, Omali Wimalaratne, Chief Financial Officer J.D.A.P. Jayasinghe, Director General Engineer U.L.A. Nassar, Colombo District Secretary Prasanna Geeganage, and a large number of staff members of the Home Affairs section.
