On yesterday(10), the Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, and a Japanese delegation including the Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Akio Isomata, conducted a special inspection of the machinery and equipment donated by the Japanese government to the National Hospital of Sri Lanka (NHSL), the country’s main government hospital.
The inspection focused on the Outpatient Department (OPD), the Diagnostic Imaging Center, the Emergency Treatment Unit, and the Accident Service. The purpose was to understand how the donated equipment is being used to provide treatment services and to secure future cooperation from the Japanese government for the development of the country’s healthcare system.

A few months ago, the Japanese government provided a substantial donation to the NHSL, valued at 1,000 million Japanese Yen. This included an MRI machine, a CT scan machine, a Cathlab treatment unit, and various other medical, surgical, and essential equipment to enhance the health of the Sri Lankan people and provide efficient and excellent treatment services.
Minister of Health, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, extended his special gratitude to the Japanese Ambassador and the Japanese government for their continuous support in developing the NHSL. He stated that the current government and the Ministry of Health are prioritizing the development of this hospital, and are actively seeking foreign assistance for this purpose.
Ambassador Akio Isomata noted the long-standing friendship between Sri Lanka and Japan and affirmed that Japan’s support for the future development of Sri Lanka’s health sector will continue.
The event was also attended by Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Kumara Wickramasinghe; Deputy Director General of the NHSL, Dr. Pradeep Wijesinghe; Deputy Directors Dr. Indika Jagoda and Dr. Pradeep Rathnasekara; as well as other administrative officers, specialist doctors, doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
