The 6th Annual Provincial Library Conference was recently held on the 4th of July  at the National Library and Documentation Services Board (NLDSB) auditorium. This annual event, organized by the NLDSB in collaboration with Provincial Library Services Boards, aims to evaluate and further expand the role and services provided by provincial library systems across the island.

The conference was presided over by Dr. Hiniduma Sunil Senewi, Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious, and Cultural Affairs.

Sixth Provincial Library Services Conference – 2025

Under the 13th Amendment to the Sri Lankan Constitution, Provincial Library Services Boards were established under each Provincial Council to expand and formalize library services in the country. Currently, Provincial Library Services Boards and central libraries have been set up in the North Central, Uva, Sabaragamuwa, and Central Provinces.

Attendees at this year’s conference included Dr. Rathna Sri Wijesinghe, Chairman of the NLDSB, Director General W. Sunil, along with chairpersons, board members, and local government commissioners from the respective Provincial Library Services Boards.
