Today (04), a discussion was held at the Galle District Secretariat with senior officials from the foreign employment sector, chaired by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment, Arun Hemachandra. This meeting focused on enhancing the foreign employment sector, which significantly contributes to the country’s economy.

The second phase of the Foreign Employment Sector Program today at the Galle District Secretariat

Representatives from both the Galle and Matara districts participated in the discussion, where they exchanged views on challenges and new opportunities within the field. The Deputy Minister stated that special attention is being given to providing necessary support and livelihood assistance to returning migrant workers, helping them embark on entrepreneurial paths and rebuild their lives.

Deputy Minister Arun Hemachandra also mentioned that this discussion is one step in a series of district-level dialogues. Such discussions are being held continuously across all 25 districts island-wide, with the aim of establishing a more formalized foreign employment system.
