Known for its beaches that stretch along its western coast, its centuries- old fishing industry, and the Dutch Canal that runs through the center of the city, Negombo is a coastal city that is one of Sri Lanka’s major economic hubs. Even though the nation was still ruled by the Dutch, it was a significant producer of cinnamon. Negombo, sometimes referred to as “Little Rome” by the locals, is mostly populated by Roman Catholics and has several churches. The city is a well-liked first stop for visitors arriving in Sri Lanka and is only a short 15-minute drive from the Bandaranaike International Airport.

Negombo Beach is well-known for its long, broad, soft golden sand beaches. It extends north from Negombo town along the hotel strip. The warm beaches are perfect for strolling in the gentle evening breeze or for tanning and relaxing in the sun. The beach’s edges are perfect for relaxing and sunbathing under the warm rays of the setting sun. While it is not recommended to use the sea for bathing, most visitors and residents still like taking the occasional dip. Additionally, the coast is ideal for playing football and volleyball on the sand with loved ones, friends, and family.
