“Malimawa gains power of 200 local bodies”
The National People’s Power (NPP) has now successfully secured control of 200 local government bodies. These local bodies include the Thanamalwila Pradeshiya Sabha and the Balangoda Urban Council, which brought the total to 200, including the previously secured 151 institutions.
Meanwhile, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) holds a total of 27 local government bodies, and the Illankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) has secured 17 local government bodies.
The Pohottu (Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna – SLPP), the Ceylon Workers’ Congress (CWC), and the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) have each secured 3 local government bodies. The Podujana Eksath Peramuna has secured one local government body.
Notably, the United National Party (UNP) has failed to secure control of any local government bodies in this election. Several other parties, including independent groups, have secured 12 local government bodies.
