“The first phase of ‘Pol Desathiya’ begins in Jaffna”
The Coconut Cultivation Board has launched a program called “Pol Desathiya” (Coconut Fortnight) to control pests, including the harmful whitefly, affecting coconut cultivation.
Dr. Sunimal Jayakody, Chairman of the Coconut Cultivation Board, stated that the first phase of this program is set to commence on July 14th, centered in the Jaffna district.
Further elaborating, Dr. Sunimal Jayakody said:
“We’ve decided to implement ‘Pol Desathiya’ as a rapid program in all districts. We’ll start this program on July 14th in Jaffna. As a specific solution for the whitefly, all coconut trees in the Jaffna district will be sprayed and washed with water. We are preparing the necessary manpower and machinery for this.”
