It’s reported that Agriculture, Post Resources, Land, and Irrigation Minister K.D. Lalakantha took immediate steps to grant permanent appointments to casual workers of the Ministry who gathered in front of the Ministry of Agriculture yesterday (16) demanding the confirmation of their services.

A group of casual and contract employees, recruited at various times under the Ministry of Agriculture, were dressed in black and holding placards with their demands while protesting in front of the Ministry. The Minister called four of the employees into his office to discuss their issue. It’s reported that he immediately made a phone call to the Ministry of Public Administration to inquire about the current situation.

Minister provides swift solutions to casual workers who joined the protest

During the discussion, the Minister informed the employees that they are included in the government’s decision to regularize casual employees. He assured them that issues related to the necessary circulars would be resolved, and a swift solution would be provided within approximately one month. Several officials, including the Additional Secretary of Administration and Human Resource Development, were present at this occasion.

Following this discussion, all protesting employees ended their demonstration. They addressed the media, expressing respect for the Minister’s statement and acknowledging that their objectives had been met. They then peacefully left the Ministry premises.
