Masood Imad, the Maldivian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, stated that there are up to 100,000 job opportunities available for Sri Lankans in the Maldives, though currently, only about 30,000 Sri Lankans are employed in various fields there. He made these remarks yesterday (June 2) during a meeting at the Ministry with Vijitha Herath, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism.

High Commissioner Imad further informed Minister Herath that the Maldives is ready to provide the necessary support to increase job opportunities for Sri Lanka’s skilled and professional workers.

Job Opportunities for Sri Lankans in the Maldives

Responding to an inquiry from Minister Herath regarding challenges faced by Sri Lankan workers in the Maldives when sending remittances back to Sri Lanka, Masood Imad stated that the Maldivian government is aware of these issues and has already initiated a program to resolve them.

The meeting also included discussions on opportunities to further strengthen the existing relations between Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
