Acting Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya has instructed all police station heads and senior police officers to conduct special inspections of long-distance service buses.

He has instructed the relevant officers to enforce the law regarding traffic offenses such as driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of drugs, and reckless and dangerous driving, especially by conducting special inspections of long-distance service buses at night. Accordingly, instructions have been given to deploy teams of officers at selected suitable locations within police divisions during the night to conduct special inspections of vehicles and buses traveling on the road.
It is also mentioned that the Acting Inspector General of Police has instructed officers of the Police Motorcycle Patrol Units to inspect buses driving recklessly on the road and enforce the law. The Police Media Division stated that these special inspections of buses are being carried out due to the observed daily increase in accidents involving long-distance service buses.
