Today (12) marks the Vesak Full Moon Poya day, which commemorates the Triple Blessed Event of the Buddha.

The birth, enlightenment, and passing away (Parinirvana) of the Buddha all occurred on a day like today’s Poya.

The Vesak Full Moon Poya day, rich in religious significance, is celebrated with great joy by the people of Sri Lanka and Buddhists worldwide, who prioritize offerings of material goods and spiritual practices.

Today is Vesak Full Moon Poya

On this Vesak Full Moon Poya, the Buddhist people of Sri Lanka remember the Triple Blessed Event and engage in religious observances such as giving alms, observing precepts, and meditation, centered around temples. Various alms-giving events (Dansalas) are also held. Our Buddhist people celebrate the Vesak Triple Blessed Event with festivity by constructing lanterns and pandals (thorana).
