Following discussions with fertilizer companies, and after the Ministry confirmed that they possess sufficient fertilizer stocks for the Yala season, a special briefing regarding fertilizer prices was held yesterday at the Agrarian Services Department.

During this briefing, it was stated that since there is enough fertilizer for the Yala season, especially TSP fertilizer, as well as the primarily used urea, the fertilizer companies agreed to maintain the previous price levels following discussions.

The Ministry of Agriculture says that there is enough fertilizer for the Yala season

Accordingly, despite the increase in fertilizer prices in the global market, the Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land, and Irrigation, D.P. Wickramasinghe, responsibly stated that there is a sufficient quantity of MOP fertilizer, and since there are adequate fertilizer stocks, there will be no increase in fertilizer prices or shortages.

Joining this occasion, the Chairman of the State Fertilizer Corporation, Thilak Chandrakumara Sethunge, mentioned that the National Fertilizer Secretariat has confirmed that there are sufficient fertilizer stocks currently in the country for this Yala season.

The Chairman further stated that the State Fertilizer Corporation has 600 metric tons of TSP fertilizer, and the total amount available in the country is approximately 3200 metric tons. He also noted that there is more than the required amount of MOP fertilizer for the Yala season, with the State Fertilizer Corporation holding 15,000 tons and the total amount being close to 69,000 tons. He mentioned that there is 60,000 metric tons of urea fertilizer in the country, with his company holding 4000 metric tons, and an additional 5000 metric tons expected to arrive in the country next week.

The Chairman further requested the farming community not to be misled by false news circulating about fertilizer price increases due to a shortage.
