May Day is celebrated globally on the 1st of May, and has its roots with traditions varying significantly by region and cultural context. In many countries, it’s a public holiday and a day for celebrating workers’ rights and holding demonstrations.

The National People’s Power (NPP) has planned to hold its May Day rally today (1) at Galle Face Green. The May Day celebration is scheduled to be held under the leadership of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.  

The May Day rally of the alliance led by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) is planned to be held at the Lindula Municipal Council grounds in Thalawakele, under the leadership of SJB leader Sajith Premadasa.

The May Day rally organized by the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) is scheduled to be held at the Ananda Samarakoon Open Air Theatre in Nugegoda.  

The May Day celebration organized by the People’s United Front, led by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), is scheduled to be held at the party headquarters.
