The largest container ship to ever visit the Colombo Port has arrived at the East Container Terminal (ECT)
The world-renowned mega container vessel MSC MARIELLA arrived at the East Container Terminal (ECT) of the Colombo Port yesterday (28). The MSC MARIELLA, registered in Liberia, West Africa, has a length of 399.90 meters and a width of 61.30 meters. This massive vessel, with a capacity of 240,737 tons, was manufactured in 2023
“Signs that the Colombo Port is becoming the central port in the region”
Ganaka Hemanthachandra, the Managing Director of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, stated that 1,600 containers will be loaded and unloaded from this vessel at the East Container Terminal.
Ganaka Hemanthachandra further mentioned that the arrival of the MSC MARIELLA is a significant milestone in Sri Lanka’s maritime sector and will further elevate Sri Lanka’s name in the international shipping industry.
The arrival of this enormous vessel hints at the realization of the current government’s aspiration to transform the Colombo Port into a maritime hub in South Asia
