In line with the “Clean Sri Lanka” program coinciding with the 2025 World Earth Day, the Sri Lanka Hada Bima Authority, under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land, and Irrigation, organized a special series of programs with the aim of conserving Sri Lanka’s water resources, associated ecosystems, and environmentally important sites.
“The ‘Hada Bima’ Authority is conducting a special series of programs to mark World Earth Day”
This series of programs was implemented covering various regions of the island, with its primary objective being to ensure environmental cleanliness and the sustainable existence of water resources.
The main commemoration program of this series was successfully held yesterday ( 22) in the Moragolla area of the Galatha Grama Niladhari Division, belonging to the Udapalatha Divisional Secretariat in the Kandy District, focusing on the Mahaweli River vicinity.
Over a hundred individuals participated in this Shramadana (voluntary work) program, including government officials, university students, the local farming community, and the staff of the Hada Bima Authority. The main goal of the program was to remove improperly discarded waste. Accordingly, over 600 kilograms of non-degradable waste such as polythene, plastic, and glass bottles were collected, sorted, and arrangements were made to dispose of them properly from the site with the support of the Udapalatha Pradeshiya Sabha (Divisional Council). Additionally, a special awareness signboard was erected to educate the public on preventing the improper disposal of waste, and waste bins were also placed for the proper disposal of sorted waste
