Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation, Bimal Rathnayake, recently inspected the proposed Wattuvakal Bridge, a project under consideration in the current government’s 2025 budget, intended to span the Nandikadal Lagoon along the Mullaitivu-Paranthan road. During the inspection, the Minister commented that the bridge’s design phase is complete and that procurement-related activities are in progress. He further stated that construction of the bridge is scheduled to commence swiftly following the conclusion of the procurement process.

The total estimated cost for the bridge construction is 1900 million Sri Lankan Rupees, with 1000 million Rupees allocated from this year’s budget for the project.
This initiative is expected to ease the difficulties faced by the public due to the severely deteriorated condition of the existing road, which is often affected by adverse weather.
The occasion was attended by Vanni District Member of Parliament Mylvaganam Jegadeeswaran and several officials from the Road Development Authority.
