The Sri Lanka Police is taking measures to deploy 35,000 police officers for the safety of the public and traffic management during the New Year festive season, according to Police Media Spokesperson, Senior Superintendent of Police Buddhika Manathunga.

Further commenting, Senior Superintendent of Police Buddhika Manathunga stated that over 6,000 police officers will be deployed for the security of the public in areas where large numbers of people gather, especially in Colombo city, focusing on areas expected to have high foot traffic for shopping such as Fort, Pettah (Galle Face), Borella, Kirulapana, and Bambalapitiya, as well as in areas where religious places are located. He also requested the public to provide the necessary support to the police officers, including traffic officers, who will be on duty during this period.
