Reports indicate that the Department of Prisons has taken steps to provide a special opportunity for imprisoned detainees to have open visits from their relatives on the upcoming 13th and 14th of this month, in view of the upcoming Sinhala New Year.

Accordingly, on the upcoming April 13th and 14th, the Department of Prisons has arranged for relatives of the detainees to hand over a food parcel, a sweets parcel, and a parcel containing sanitary items, sufficient for only one detainee.
The Department of Prisons further states that these visitation activities will take place in all prison institutions across the island in compliance with all health guidelines.
