A training program to educate field officials on the proposed “National Road Safety Program,” an initiative conceived by the President and implemented under the guidance of Bimal Ratnayake, Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation and Leader of the House of Sri Lankan Parliament, was held on yesterday(02), at the auditorium of Toyota Lanka in Wattala.

This special program, presided over by Deputy Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation, Engineer Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku, was jointly organized by the Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation and the National Council for Road Safety.

National Road Safety Training Program Commences

With the growth of the country’s population, controlling the increasing number of road accidents has become a critical issue. As a remedy, the government is implementing this program as the “Accident Prevention Program.” The primary objective is to minimize accidents by fostering attitudinal improvements among all relevant parties through practical training programs, aiming for safer driving practices.

This program will be implemented nationwide to realize the government’s vision of securing the lives of the country’s twenty-two million people and creating an efficient transportation service. The program is designed to secure lives and property beyond mere law enforcement and punishment, focusing on driver, passenger, vehicle, and road management.

Officials from the Road Development Authority, Sri Lanka Transport Board, National Transport Commission, National Council for Road Safety, police station heads in charge of traffic divisions representing all districts of the island, driving training instructors, other government agency officials, and representatives from several private sector organizations participated in the event.
