Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation, and Leader of the House of Sri Lanka Parliament, Bimal Rathnayake, emphasized these points while addressing an awareness meeting for contractors and company representatives involved in the construction sector.
““We will act to protect the mandate given by the people against corruption and to spend government funds transparently,” -Minister Bimal Rathnayake”
The discussion, held on the 14th March at the Ministry of Highways Auditorium in Koswatta, Battaramulla, focused on development projects proposed for implementation in 2025.
Accordingly, discussions covered development activities in various sectors, including highway development, completion of remaining sections of expressways, bridge projects, modernization of traffic light systems, rural road development and rehabilitation, and multi-modal transport terminal projects.
Addressing the delegation, the Minister stated:
“By carrying out development activities with public participation, we can provide the maximum service needed by the people. By obtaining the support of regional coordination committees, we can implement projects that provide maximum benefits to the people, free from corruption, according to their needs. Unlike previous governments, the current government will not engage in business. We are a government subject to the people’s mandate. Everyone else is also subject to the people’s mandate. Public funds must be spent transparently. The government gives priority to the development of the Northern Province, which has been neglected for a long time. We are committed to developing rural roads, highways, bridges, and other infrastructure in that area. Similarly, the support of construction companies is needed for the development of highways and other infrastructure in other provinces of the country.”
The Minister also requested the officials and company representatives present to work together with the Ministry and the Road Development Authority to realize the five-year development plan.
The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways, Dr. Prasanna Gunasekera, and officials from institutions related to the Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation.
