Fifteen Indian nationals who violated Sri Lankan immigration laws by staying in the country on tourist visas have been deported, according to reports.

It has been revealed that this group of Indian nationals were involved in promotional activities for a religious group in the Jaffna area and were working as wood carving craftsmen in a timber workshop. It is stated that all of them had arrived in Sri Lanka on free tourist visas issued at Katunayake Airport.

Two of them had conducted a religious healing service in the Mathagal area of Jaffna on the 5th and 7th of this month, and Hindu organizations in the area had organized a protest against them.

It is reported that the two religious priests who were arrested were deported to Chennai, India, early on the 8th of this month.

In addition, eight more Indian nationals who were working as wood carving craftsmen in a timber workshop in the Jaffna area, and five Indian nationals who were working in restaurants, were arrested and deported to Chennai, India, from Palaly Airport yesterday.
