“Orders to immediately arrest all those who have deserted from the tri-forces”
It is reported that Defense Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyyakontha has ordered the immediate arrest of all those who have deserted from the tri-forces.
The Defense Secretary made this statement while participating in a press conference held at the Government Information Department on the 22nd of February.
He was responding to a question from a journalist regarding the recent reports of a majority of crimes being linked to army soldiers who had received weapons training, and what steps the Ministry of Defense had taken in response.
Further commenting, the Defense Secretary stated that a significant number of soldiers have deserted from the army, which has become a social problem. He also stated that there is no political protection for underworld activities and that necessary legal actions have been taken promptly. He added that an audit of firearms is currently underway and that a considerable number have been brought under the control of the Ministry of Defense.
