“launch e-Passport system within 8 months – Deputy Minister”
The Ministry of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs states that the necessary preparations for implementing the E-Passport (electronic passport) issuance process are currently underway.
Deputy Minister Attorney-at-Law Sunil Watagala stated that the restraining order imposed by the court has now been lifted, so there is no obstacle to implementing the E-passport issuance process. Accordingly, plans are in place to start issuing E-passports in about 8 months, and agreements have already been signed with the relevant companies, he added. Currently, passport issuance is being carried out under the normal procedure.
