Under the Ministry of Buddha Sasana, Religious, and Cultural Affairs, the Tower Hall Theatre Foundation organized the ‘’Apekshawe vedika mangallaya’’ (Aspiration Stage Festival) – the ‘Tower Drama Festival’ for the fifth time. The festival commenced yesterday under the patronage of the Chairperson of the Tower Hall Theatre Foundation, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, centering on the Tower Hall and Elphinstone Theatres in Maradana.
The festival aims to establish a high-quality theatre experience for audiences, improve the income levels of dramatists, promote theatre arts, and foster a broader social dialogue on drama.

During this year’s festival, a total of 34 plays will be staged over 10 days, including 14 full-length plays, 12 short plays, and 8 children’s plays, with 68 performances in total.
Throughout the 10-day festival, 20 artists, two per day will be honoured with the prestigious ‘Tower’ Lifetime Achievement Award, which is presented only once in an artist’s lifetime, along with a financial grant. The first award was presented by Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya to veteran artist Wijerathna Warakagoda.
