Minister of Trade and Commerce Vasantha Samarasinghe stated that steps are being taken to expand the Sathosa network to a thousand outlets across the country to regulate the prices of consumer goods and provide relief to the public.
The Minister made this statement while participating in the reopening ceremony of the renovated Sathosa outlet in front of the public trade complex in Anuradhapura.
“ Sathosa to expand network to 1,000 outlets over the next three years”
Expressing further views, the Minister mentioned that the government has managed to reduce the prices of goods by 17% over the past three months.
“We are preparing to launch more than 150 Sathosa outlets to serve consumers by 2025. Over the next three years, we plan to expand the Sathosa retail network to a thousand outlets, establishing them as service centre’s for consumers.”
“In the past three months, we have reduced the prices of goods by 17%. Additionally, the prices of 40 essential items were reduced by 8% last month. Therefore, efforts are being made to expand the Sathosa network to offer goods to the public at lower prices.”
