The indictment filed against former State Minister Diana Gamage by the Attorney General, alleging that she obtained a foreign passport by submitting forged documents, was read out yesterday (9) before the Colombo High Court.

Court case against Dayana Gamage scheduled for 5th March

The charges were presented when the case was called before Colombo High Court Judge Manjula Thilakaratne.

Following the reading of the charges, Diana Gamage stated that she was not guilty.

President’s Counsel Shanaka Ranasinghe, appearing on behalf of the defendant, raised preliminary objections, pointing out that the document on which the case is based was allegedly prepared in 2003.

However, the President’s Counsel highlighted that the case was filed only in 2024, arguing that over 20 years have passed, and thus, it is legally impermissible to proceed with the case based on the said document.

After considering the submissions, the High Court Judge stated that this matter would be taken into consideration during the trial.

Accordingly, the Judge ordered the case to be heard on March 5.
