Police investigate a false audio clip on the “Clean Sri Lanka” program

The Police Headquarters has issued a clarification regarding a false audio clip circulating on social media.

In a statement released by the Police Media Division, it was noted that the audio clip, falsely attributed to the Sri Lanka Police, claims to be a special public notice aligned with the government’s “Clean Sri Lanka – 2025” program.

The audio suggests that under a specific provision of the Police Ordinance, the public is required to maintain cleanliness in front of their residences, among other responsibilities. It further alleges that legal action will be taken against those failing to comply, effective January 15, 2025.

However, the Sri Lanka Police emphasized in their statement that the audio recording is false and that no such audio notice has been issued by the Police.

The Police have initiated an investigation to identify the individual responsible for disseminating this false recording and to take appropriate legal action.
