Egg producers are taking steps to release eggs to the market without shortages, according to Ajith Gunasekara, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Animal Producers Association.
Speaking at a press conference held yesterday (07), he stated that the current retail price of an egg is between Rs. 35-36.

However, he noted that the price of eggs is determined by the demand and supply in the country. He added that during the upcoming festive season, the demand for eggs may increase, and they aim to maintain the retail price of an egg below Rs. 45.
Additionally, he mentioned that the production cost of eggs has risen due to the increased prices of rice bran and maize.
Gunasekara also stated that there is currently a surplus in chicken production, and steps have already been taken to supply chicken to the market without shortages.
